It is happening. It is time to go back to university. And I honestly am very excited about it. There are many new subjects that I have, which are very different from what I had learned so far. Everything is new and I cannot wait to dive into all of the projects of this semester.
But that is not the only thing that I am excited for: ‘back to university’-style is a huge part of it as well! I don´t know about you, but for me, especially the first days are a big deal clothing-wise. Whatever you decide to wear sends a message to everyone around you. And you can control this message by choosing outfits wisely. But there is no need to stress, the most important thing is that you feel cute and comfortable!
For this blog article, I combined three ‘back to university’-looks for you that should be perceived differently – preppy, fashionable and cool. But this categorization does not mean that you have to fit into only one style and stick to it. Rather perceive this as a guide telling you how things could work. What you should take away from this is inspiration to maybe incorporate something new into your own wardrobe.
The first person that comes to mind, when the topic is ‘preppy style’ is Spencer from Pretty Little Liars. She wears many muted tones and often layers blouses with pullovers… so this is what I did, too. I chose to wear a black knit pullover over a men´s button down. What I personally quite like about it is the pointed collar.
To stay in the same color scheme, I added a pair of pants with a very fine black and white check pattern with stripes down the legs. This kind of pant is not only very on trend right now, but also very comfortable and flattering.
With the shoes, you could definitely go all out and wear loafers or some pretty heels, but I did not want it to become too elegant, so I went for Adidas Superstars instead. The burgundy bag and the red lipstick are statement pieces to make the look more colorful.

The silhouette of this look is modern, which makes it quite fashionable. The statement piece of this is without a doubt the floral blouse. It is tied in the front and has amazingly pretty sleeve details. This shape of top looks very well with black highwaisted pants. Those should be a staple anyways because they can look effortless as well as very elegant depending on how they are combined. But it is very important that they fit well.
As the red bag is very bright, I decided to wear shoes that are cool, but don´t steal the show, so I went with my all time favorite Dr. Martens. The burgundy lipstick ties the look together. I always tend to match my lipstick- and accessory-colors to the statement piece of the outfit.

Whenever I wear this outfit, I get so many comments that it looks like I am wearing a Topgun suit or something for carneval. But I do not care at all because I absolutely love it. This overall is so easy to wear and comfortable. Khaki can be flattering on all skin tones. This shade is pretty muted and more grey than yellowish green, which looks good on pale people like myself.
The rest of the look is very simple as well. I put on my everyday makeup and then threw on sneakers, a bagpack and some silver jewelry and I was good to go. Out of the three looks, this is definitely the easiest option.
